Radical Un-Stingy Ideas
Previously, I blogged about the futility of debating the "stingy" comments, urging that the best way to demonstrate that we are otherwise is by our actions. Here are a few ideas that might boost the support to the affected areas (some of these areas were already in dire need of help of all sorts before the terrible tsunami hit):
1. Donate $1 for each individual in your family, and if you can afford it, add $5 or $10 for those who cannot even do this. This alone will raise almost $250M!
2. Each business donate 5% or 10% of the profits for an entire week to the relief effort.
3. Each restaurant add a tip-box for the relief effort and when you eat out leave an extra tip for the relief effort.
4. Instead of eating out this week, skip a meal and donate it to the relief effort.
5. Take one of the Christmas gifts you received back for a refund and donate the money to relief effort.
... okay, add your own ideas in the comments!
P.S. for a very effective cause to donate to the relief effort see my previous posts, here and here This is an orphanage which is only 20 miles from "ground zero" in South India, and they have a team right now who speak the local language and they have the facility to help with orphans and others right now, rescuing poeple and helping with the relief effort. But, like any other work, they need your help now. If you wish, you can donate here.
